FCC: FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel issued a statement today saying she's leaving the agency on Jan. 20, 2025 — the date of Trump’s second inauguration. Trump – who nominated Rosenworcel to fill a Democratic vacancy in 2017 before she was named Chairwoman by President Biden – has designated FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr, a Republican, as the next Chairman. “Serving at the FCC has been the honor of a lifetime, especially my tenure as Chair and as the first woman in history to be confirmed to lead this agency. I want to thank President Biden for entrusting me with the responsibility to guide the FCC during a time when communications technology is a part of every aspect of civic and commercial life," Rosenworcel said in a press release that went out at 6:54 a.m. today. She did not disclose future plans. “Public service is not without sacrifice, and I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and rescue pup in the days ahead,” she said. Rosenworcel’s departure will leave the agency with two Republicans and two Democrats, requiring Trump to confirm a third Republican that Carr will need to drive his agenda forward.
