CRA: Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is hoping to bring to the Senate floor as early as this week his Congressional Review Act resolution to void WiFi hotspots rules adopted by the FCC under then-FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, Semafor reported Friday. The rules were controversial with FCC Republicans, who said E-Rate money wasn’t meant for Internet-access locations away from classrooms and libraries. A Cruz aide deferred to the office of Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) about Senate floor consideration of the CRA resolution, which would also require House approval and President Trump’s signature.
Maine: President Trump on Friday got into a dust up with Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) at a White House event. Trump promised that Maine would not “get any federal funding at all” if the state failed to comply with his Executive Order designed to ban biological males from female sports. Mills did not say she would comply with the EO, just that Maine would comply with state and federal law, triggering a sharp reply from Trump. Did Mills just jeopardize Maine’s access to $279.1 million in BEAD money allocated by the Biden administration? Although Trump said “all” federal funding, he could have meant just federal support for educational programs.
