African-American TV station owner DuJuan McCoy is pushing back on an Aug. 15 decision by the National Association of Black Journalists to issue its annual “Thumbs Down” award to him during its Salute to Excellence gala ceremony in Atlanta. NABJ – founded in 1975 and based at the University of Maryland – represents more than 4,000 journalists. It said McCoy’s “award” reflected concerns raised about his treatment of Black journalists at WISH‑TV in Indianapolis, part of McCoy’s Circle City Broadcasting.
