TV: Elon Musk is endorsing comments on his X platform that called on the federal government to auction broadcast TV spectrum. "The legacy broadcast networks are using public spectrum, but act as an extension of the Democratic Party. No more free lunch for them," Musk said in response to an X post that called for a spectrum auction in which TV station owners could participate. The spectrum auction idea came from David Sacks, co-host of the All-In Podcast. "What’s more likely to happen," Sacks said, "is that valuable spectrum will be reapportioned to the next generation of wireless applications, unleashing many more interesting options for consumers and businesses. The networks can continue to operate on cable, like hundreds of other redundant channels." To which Musk replied, "Great idea." Musk has endorsed former President Donald Trump in next Tuesday’s election and has raised millions for his campaign. For now, a TV spectrum auction is on hold because the FCC’s auction authority expired on March 9, 2023.
