GCI: Charter Communications yesterday said it was acquiring Liberty Broadband, but Alaska-based GCI won't be part of the deal – a result that Charter CEO Christopher Winfrey has said will mean the deal can bypass review at the Federal Communications Commission. "Liberty Broadband has agreed to spin off its GCI business by way of a distribution to the stockholders of Liberty Broadband prior to the closing of the acquisition of Liberty Broadband by Charter," the companies said in a press release Wednesday.
