D.C. Memo: Sarcastic Carr Strikes Back at Hundt, Wheeler and Sikes

Carr: Rule No. 1 in dealing with the FCC under new management: Take a shot at FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and Team Trump and he’s going to fire back. Just ask singer Sheryl Crow, Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), or former Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg – all victims in recent days of Carr’s combative feistiness that he routinely demonstrates in posts on his X feed. Yesterday, away from the X arena, a sarcastic Carr unloaded on some liberal critics led by former Democratic FCC Chairmen Reed Hundt and Tom Wheeler, who at times have been joined by MAGA-allergic Al Sikes, FCC Chairman under President George H.W. Bush. All gave on-the-record quotes questioning Carr’s fealty to the First Amendment to blogger Oliver Darcy (formerly of CNN). Carr without taking breath replied with a long message showing slashing disregard, if not contempt, for his predecessors. Here’s Carr’s full response.
“I do feel bad for the three of them, though. I gotta imagine it’s hard when the curtain is closing on your career and yet you’re still yearning for one more moment in the limelight. I’m glad that you’re helping them out by getting their names in print again.
“Of those three, I’ve only ever met Tom Wheeler. If I met the other two, I have no memory of it. I actually like Tom, and I have really enjoyed our meetings over the years. I hope to connect with him again soon. Tom worked alongside my father early in their careers. Tom set a hard charging, if partisan, agenda at the FCC and ignored the bed wetters. There’s some things he did that I respect.
