Trusty: Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said yesterday his panel will vote April 30 on the nomination of Olivia Trusty to serve as the third Republican on the FCC. If confirmed, Trusty would give Republicans a one-vote majority control of the agency. FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks, a Democrat, has announced he is leaving this spring. That would leave only one Democrat – Anna Gomez. It’s unclear whether President Trump will nominate someone to replace Starks. Assuming Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) can find the floor time, Trusty could be seated on the FCC before May 23. The Senate is expected to remain in session from the week of April 28 to the week of May 19 before leaving for Memorial Day. NTIA Administrator-designate Arielle Roth has been voted out of Cruz’s committee and is awaiting her Senate floor vote.
