WASHINGTON, Nov. 15, 2025 — Here’s a way for President Trump to pocket an easy $42.45 billion for the beleaguered American taxpayer: Kill the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program now. It’s really the only choice left if the White House wants to avoid tarnishing Trump’s image. BEAD, signed into law four years ago today, is one of President Joe Biden’s worst domestic policy failures and there is no reason for Trump to perpetuate it.

The benefits of killing BEAD are many. Ending it would not only save billions but also spare the White House the embarrassment of defending a Biden program that clearly no longer makes sense, if it ever did. At a minimum, Trump should freeze BEAD spending for at least a year and demand that Congress craft a new plan grounded in economic reality.

A year ago, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) said to kill BEAD. Here’s why she was correct. (More after paywall.)
